Back to Sydney...

We’ve arrived back in Sydney, via dodging a few storms, lots of flooding and a ship!
After hastily leaving Surfers Paradise and the rest of the Gold Coast we retreated to the Springbook National Park. Not far inland but a world away from the high rises, theme parks and fast food joints of the coast (with a great walk through an ancient misty Antarctic beech forest to a volcano rim look-out point, see pics)
Next port of call was Nimbin! Famed for its hippy community and a strange grass substance called Marry-Juanna. Had a great burger, then headed off along windy roads through Macadamia nut farms, and through Dunoon ( Australia’s Macadamia nut capital apparently), back towards the coast. We stayed near Lennox heads where it started to rain and rain…..
The rain theme continued - as some of you may have heard - for sometime, and quite heavily…Our trip to Byron bay was wet, but we had a good wander round. Bit of a shame as we would have liked to stay here for longer, but hey ho. We then moved on to Coffs Harbor (home of the big banana!), where it rained some more, we did however have a window the next morning where we managed to do some humpback whale and dolphin spotting at Woolgoolga.
In a sunny spell we moved onto Nambucca Heads and then South West Rocks, where it started to rain again! We spent a fine night in Forster and then 2 nights sheltering in Shoal bay, just along from Nelsons bay north of Newcastle, as the worst of the weather settled in. Nice little bay, with a great Italian restaurant and a good pub (that carried on serving through a power cut, top marks!).
On Monday, the sun returned and we set off to Newcastle to see the beached boat, which was very big and very stuck on Nobbys beach!!! Saw loads of abandoned cars, flooding and storm damage on the way in and out and all the way back to Sydney.
So here we are back staying with Sophie, Richard and Joel in Collaroy in the Northern beaches of Sydney. And its cold!!!!! (well 15 degrees, which is cold for us!!!) But having a great time (thanks guys J) and looking forward to Joel’s 1st birthday on Sunday and having some of the awesome looking teddy bear cake that soph has made.
Not much more time left in Oz, we leave for a week in Melbourne on Tuesday and then back to Sydney for a few days (thanks in advance to Nic and Tali, and Helen and Al!!!) before flying to New Zealand on July 2nd…………..
Mucho Gusto!!!
